Nature Diary Memories

A trip down memory lane at the recent Mid Winter Alumni Event led Philippa Graham (née Flower, Class of '53) to search for some items from both hers and her daughters' school days. Philippa shared with Alumni Coordinator, Jo McPhail, her fond memories of The Kings Treasuries of Literature collection. She recollects colouring in the beautifully decorative frontispiece pages in these little books. She also remembers the 'exceptional' Art Appreciation Books and those belonging to her daughters are still very much treasured today. Additional items that have been kept in a safe place over the years, and that therefore retain all their careful detail and vibrant colour, are two Nature Diaries belonging to Philippa's daughter, Frances Graham (Class of '79). Philippa and Frances have very kindly donated to our archives these two Nature Diaries along with a selection of books from the Kings Treasuries of Literature series. One of these books is one that Philippa recalls very carefully decorating herself during her school days at Selwyn House. The tradition of the Nature Diaries at Selwyn House carries on to this day so it is lovely to have two fine examples of these works from the 70s!
